Last post here, and I just wanted to thank everyone for their support of Movember. We’ve had a lot of laughs, but in the end it’s about how awesome my moustache is, even when I have huge bags under my eyes.

I am now accepting job offers as Bikie Enforcer, Spaghetti Western Extra, and Doorman at the Peel.

Dear friends, clients, and clients who are friends,

I’d very much like to thank everyone for their support during the Movember appeal this month. As this is the last week of the appeal, I figured I’d give you a quick update on what’s happened so far.

Beards shaved off: 1

Number of times people have crossed the road to avoid me: 3 (I promise, this is more than normal)

Burgers eaten at Grill’d: 7

Money Raised for the Movember Appeal: $1,533.67

I think you’ll agree that this is a great result, and it’s only been possible because of your help. All I did was let my inner 1970’s Solo Man come to the fore. The amazing generosity and support has been all you.

So, please accept my thanks for supporting this great cause, and for putting up with my somewhat frightening moustache. Unluckily for everyone, I’m getting attached to it!

Yes, I’m wearing glasses inside. They make me look 15% tougher in photographs, and they also cover the fact that my eyes are red. I think I have a touch of hayfever, like everyone else in Melbourne at the moment.

Moustache Status: Woeful

I was warned not to try to choose the shape of my moustache, that it must indeed choose you. I thought I could somehow cheat. I was wrong. I’ve shaved what I have into quasi-handlebars, because it was all just starting to look like George Michael’s beard.

This is also all of the viable moustache hair that I have without a bunch of empty patches in it. It limits my options, but not too much. I think there’s still a few options.

I was going to shape the moustache last night, but I thought it might need another day so I could get some definition in it. While the early money was on me growing a handlebar, like this guy:

It’s just before lunch on November 2, and I figured now might be the right time to quickly say thanks to everyone who has given their support. So far, people have donated $875 to Movember through my donation page, and frankly, I think that’s amazing. I can’t thank you guys enough.

It’s still very bloody strange to be beardless. Every time I see myself in the mirror, I think someone has broken into the house because hey who is that strange guy? My girlfriend doesn’t much like it either. She’s been walking around like a cat who’s just moved house and doesn’t know where the litter box is.

I better remember to check my shoes for poop before I put them on in the morning.

On another note, there are some other folks I know who are doing Movember outside of Australia. Keep an eye on their MoSpace pages because I reckon they are going to grow some spectacular facial hair.

It’s Movember First, and I need your help.

Greetings, moustache fans! It’s November 1 and I’m ready to grow this thing. Well, reasonably ready. I spent yesterday freaking out every time I saw myself in the mirror, and jumping ten feet every time the Lady touched my face. It felt…creepy.

I’m very aware that I look different. A bartender at a watering hole I frequent asked me if I were my own brother. Instead of saying I look like House, people are saying I looking like an ugly Trent Reznor. I can deal with that I guess.

Anyway, here’s the thing: I don’t know what kind of moustache to grow. Here’s where you come in – reblog the hell out of that pic above, but please scribble, Photoshop or MSPaint onto it the type of moustache that you think I should have. If you’re not on Tumblr, email it to me at indefensible@gmail.com and I’ll post what you send me.

If you submit an idea AND donate, say five bucks, I’ll put your idea in a hat and draw one at random later in the week. If you’ve ever wanted the chance to make me look like even more of a tool, then here it is. People who have already donated - you guys of course get a chance too!

By the way, if you ever need a haircut or a shave, you could do a hell of a lot worse than going to the barber on Smith Street near the corner of Gertrude. Get a shave or a haircut on Saturdays and there’s a free beer in it for you!

So, what’s all this about Movember then?

Five or six years back, some blokes in Fitzroy were throwing back a few tasty beverages and the subject of men’s health came up. Over what I’m sure were some very convivial drinks, they decided to all grow moustaches for the entire month of November – asking people to sponsor them if they made it for the entire month.

What started as a 30 guys doing something as a bit of a lark has grown to the point that in 2008 more than 125,000 men and women participated in Movember and together raised more than $8 million.

This year, the money raised goes toward to great causes - prostate cancer research, and depression in men. Both of these causes could do with as much assistance as they can get, and so this year I’ve decided to jump on the band-wagon and see what I can do to raise some money.

I’ve been running a beard now for about a decade, and so to even participate in Movember, I’ve had to do the unthinkable and shave off the facial fuzz.

Will my girlfriend like it? Will I be able to cope without a beard to hide behind? Can I raise any money at all? Let’s see over the next month.
